Essay Contest

The Marie Sklodowska Curie Professional Women’s Association is announcing another essay contest for the students of Polish Supplementary Schools in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut Area. This year the subject of the essay is Adam Mickiewicz and how his epic poem Pan Tadeusz inspired Poles under partitions.  *Teachers please read the notes on second page of the announcement*. Winning essays will be awarded at the MSCPWA awards ceremony and buffet on Wednesday, May 11, 7 pm, at Princess Manor in Greenpoint, NY. 

Prizes: 

First Prize -     $500  

Second Prize - $300

Third Prize -    $200

Age requirement - thirteen to sixteen years old

Length - five to six typewritten pages, double-spaced

Rubric:
-  the essay should be written in English using proper spelling, grammar and essay structure 
- information must be accurate 

- research must be evident, and a bibliography of sources must be included 

- footnotes should be properly used when necessary 

- creativity is a requirement 

- essay must be in the student’s own words

Deadline - essays must be received by April 22, 2022

*NOTES:

Sejm Polski wybrał Romantyzm pod swój patronat na rok 2022. Uważa się, że romantyzm w Polsce rozpoczął się w 1822 r., kiedy wydany został I tom "Poezji" Adama Mickiewicza. Dzieło Mickiewicza, Pan Tadeusz, zostało przetłumaczone kilka razy na język angielski. Polecamy ostatnie tłumaczenie dzieła przez profesora Bill’a Johnston’a, który był laureatem nagród Transatlantyk oraz Found in Translation, a także otrzymał Medal Prezydencki w Konsulacie w zeszłym roku. Jako pomoc wizualną, polecamy film Wajdy, Pan Tadeusz.
